Overcoming Mumbling

One of the great things about the art of communication is that it can be learned, and huge strides can be made instantaneously.  A good place to start is to quit mumbling. Mumbling is defined as "to say or utter indistinctly, as with partly closed lips." Yep, that's all it takes normally to cure this one! Just open up our mouth and speak clearly whether in person or on the telephone.

Yet, this mumbling issue plagues many. Do you know someone who is a "mumbler?" It makes you just want to tell them, "would you open your mouth and talk so that we can all understand you?" Well, even my wife tells me to quit mumbling sometimes. My problem? Sheer laziness. Easily corrected.

In the days of early morning radio, we used to excercise our mouth muscles and warm up our speaking voice. It worked. Sometimes, it takes a conscious decision to speak clearly. Our boss, our clients, our spouse, our friends, everyone will appreciate it!
